Humans and gambling. The relationship dates back millennia. Some of the oldest artifacts unearthed by archaeologists have been related to games of chance. Anyone who has ever spent any time gambling has experienced the phenomenon of what is sometimes called a “lucky streak,” during which, for a brief period, everything seems to fall into place. Lucky streaks can be delightful but should also be unnerving. They are called games of chance for a reason, and while temporary rewards do come, lucky streaks never last. Failure to realize that past phenomena are not likely to repeat is known as the Gambler’s Fallacy.

The skull presented here is filled with clock gears and dice – clock gears to represent the ephemeral nature of the lucky streak, and dice as the ultimate symbol of chance occurrence.
